  1. GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional Barcode (Formerly RSS omnidirectional barcode):

  • This GS1 DataBar barcodes (formerly RSS barcode) can encodes 14 digits GTIN number
  • The barcode only accepts numeric data
  • Application Identifier used in this DataBar barcode, which is (01), gets appended only in the human readable part of the barcode but do not get encoded.
  • GTIN 12 & GTIN 13 gets encoded by appending 0s in the beginning and making it 14 digits to make it 14 digits GS1 DataBar barcode.
  • This barcode can be scanned omnidirectionally.
  • DataBar Omnidirectional barcode can be widely used in Retail Point of Sales.

  • Minimum Height:           33 x XDimension
  • Eg: if XDimension is 0.013 inches total symbol width will be (96 x 0.01) = 0.96 inches

  2. GS1 DataBar Truncated Barcode (Formerly RSS Truncateed):

  • DataBar Truncated barcode is identical to Omnidirectional databar barcode, but height is reduced from 33X to 13X. 
  • This GS1 barcode is not ideal for scanning omnidirectionally.
  • This barcode is NOT suitable for Retail Point of Sales.
  • GS1 DataBar Truncated barcode cane be Ideal barcode for small item where space is constraint.
  • The barcode can encode 14 digits GTIN number which has AI (01).
  • This barcode also accepts only numeric data
  • Application Identifier gets appended in the human readable (not encoded)
  • GTIN 12 & GTIN 13 gets encoded by appending 0s in the beginning and making it 14 digits GS1 DataBar Trubcated barcode.

  3. GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional Barcode:(formerly RSS Stacked omnidirectional barcode)

  • The GS1 DataBAr Stacked Omnidirectional is identical to regular DataBar Omnidirectional  barcode, but broken down to 2 rows by separator.
  • Separator in this GS1 DataBAr barcode has 3 row tears each with 1x Xdimesion height 
  • Each row contains full height, hence ideal for scanning omnidirectionally.
  • This GS1 barcode is therefore suitable for Retail Point of Sales.
  • Ideal for small item where wider space is tight.
  • The GS1 DataBar Stack Omnidirectional barcode can encode 14 digits GTIN number
  • The barcode only accepts numeric data
  • Application Identifier appended in the human readable but not encoded in the DataBar barcode.

  4. GS1 DataBar Stacked Barcode (formerly RSS Stacked Barcode):

  • GS1 DataBar Stacked barcode is identical to DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional barcode, but its height is reduced from 33X to 13X.
  • Separator has 1 row tears each with 1x Xdimesion height 
  • Each row in DataBar Stacked barcode has reduced 6x height, and cannot be scanned omnidirectionally.
  • The barcode is NOT suitable for Retail Point of Sales.
  • Health care industry is finding GS1 DataBar Stacked barcode very useful due to its smaller size.
  • The Databar barcode is ideal for small item where space is very tight.
  • This GS1 stacked barcode can encode 14 digits GTIN number.
  • This barcode only accepts numeric data.
  • Application Identifier appended in the human readable of GS1 DataBar Stacked barcode is not encoded.

  • Due to its size this DataBar Limited is not ideal for scanning omnidirectionally.
  • The barcode is NOT suitable for Retail Point of Sales.
  • DataBar Limited may be Ideal for small item where space is constraint.
  • This GS1 Limited dataBar barcode can encodes 14 digits GTIN number
  • Only accepts numeric data.
  • First digit is 0 or 1.
  • Application Identifier appended in the human readable of the GS1 DataBar Limited barcode is not encoded.
  • GTIN 12 & GTIN 13 gets encoded by appending 0s in the beginning and making it 14 digits GS1 DataBar Limited barcode.

  • GS1 DataBar Expanded is a variable length dataBar barcode and can encode up to 74 numbers or 41 alphabetic characters.
  • This GS1 barcode can contain 3 to 21 Data characters, 2 to 11 finder patters, and a check characters pattern.
  • Due to it full height and paired finder pattern, the GS1 DataBAr expanded barcode is detectable omnidirectionally by scanners.
  • The barcode is designed to hold more information like product origin, weight, expiration date, etc.
  • This GS1 DataBar barcode can encode multiple Application Identifiers (AI) with associate data.
  • The GS1 DataBAr Expanded barcode Can encode alpha numeric data.

  7. GS1 DataBar Interim Coupon Barcode:

  GS1 DataBar Coupon barcode has been in use in retail industry for a long time (mid 1980). At first, it was UPC barcode with system ID 5. Since UPC barcode cannot hold more than 12 digits, it requires another barcode to hold the additional information like offer code, expiration date or household ID numbers. Therefore, it gets extension to UCC/EAN 128 barcode attached to it. EAN 13 barcode was also in use instead of UPC barcode, which starts with 99, hence called EAN 99 coupon barcode. After more than 20 years in use, now there is a need to encode more data for complex barcode couponing, and accommodate longer company ID, and the traditional coupon barcode becomes less efficient and sometimes not usable at all. Now GS1 introduces new coupon format usign GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked barcode (formerlt RSS Expanded Stacked barcode). This barcode will be in mandatory nationwide on January 2011, which they call "sunrise 2011". In the meantime, GS1 propose using UPC barcode and GS1 Expanded Stacked barcode side by side, which is known as GS1 DataBar Interim Coupon format.
